NIKE AIR MAX
The Nike Air Max range was first introduced in 1987 with the launch of the Air Max 1. This iconic silhouette was designed by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield and was the first of many Air Max designs which featured the unique visible air unit. The Nike Air technology was nothing new, the technology was being used as part of the cushioning in designs as far back as 1978. The difference was the technology was always hidden away, buried within the midsole and never part of the visual design. Tinker and another key Nike veteran, the Director of Cushioning Innovation (yes, they had one of those) Dave Forland had the idea of making the air technology visible and part of the design, something they could show off proudly and just as importantly use to market their designs. The visible air units were added for the first time to the Air Max 1 with huge success, the success, and range then continued to grow with iconic releases such as the Air Max 90, 93, 95 and more recently the 2015.
